I love photography and have for a while, and I majored in graphic design as my first major in college. But that was all before, while I was "normal." It wasn't until I was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome that I began doing "real" art - sketches, acrylic, and pastels are my favorites, though I've messed with some other stuff. I have limited use of my left arm, and the use I do have is with pain, but I still love art. Abstract expression of my pain allows me to say with art what I can't with words. I like realistic art too though. I continue to do graphic design as well, though only as a volunteer, not as a job anymore as I can't do it as often. I love my time volunteering though, it is a time I look forward to each week.

I'm a professional animator. I have found that RA can be very debilitating especially to my hands and wrists, however, I have recently become much more cable of handling life's daily tasks. I will always do whatever I can to keep my artistic skill, even if that means taking time off from it!! My hands were so messed up for a long time...I virtually did not do any artwork for over a year. At the time, I didn't have a choice, but I also kept in mind that I was just taking a "break" until my hands got better. And here I am now!!

I'm a quasi-professional photographer, though I'm mostly doing free-lance and portfolio building these days. I've found it to be such a destresser and safe haven from everything that goes along with my chronic pain. It's really upsetting when I'm feeling too sick to go out and shoot, but I've found that there are always other ways to be creative, even when you're not feeling your best. For me, editing my work online and organizing my images is close enough to the real thing to make me feel productive, even on my worst days.

I am a dancer, and currently work in entertainment...some days I CANNOT believe I am able to do it with a chronic illness. It really does get exhausting. I love it, though. Anything creative makes me forget I'm sick.

Been ten years for me Stephanie. I miss it everyday. I sing in the shower but it's just not the same. Hope you sing to your baby! Any way to keep the pipes at least a little oiled...

Any actor/singers in this group? I was (am? may be again someday?) a professional actor/singer. Got hit with various health issues and also became a mom at the same time - so haven't done a show in almost 6 years now. Miss it alot.

You know, that's a great point. I think I just need to have the ZONE be my priority.

I love to take pictures and I have found that when I am in that "zone", I don't notice as much what my body is doing. So every weekend when I am behind the lens, it is like a little retreat for me.

I love to get focused in "making" mode, but get bumped out of it based on what my body is doing. I'm trying to find a new strategy that will allow me to focus better and not get so easily distracted.
