Carrie, your note was comforting. I'm overwhelmed because it seems that even the naturopath doesn't get it that this is very debilitating and any therapy can zap you back. I'm finding that out with my weekly chiropractic and massage. Its a fine line between serving me and breaking me down. I won't get massage during the first three days of my period again. I do have to cut out the toxic food totally, I'm not doing that. I like chips, etc. but those things also constipate me. I really am at a place where its up to me to take care of mysefl and not rely on tests, supplements or cleanses. Do you feel as though you're flushing out toxins daily? What are your supplements?

Wow, you have a lot going on! Are you sure your insurance doesn't cover the saliva test at all? I'm on Medicare due to disability and it covered mine (by Neuroscience) in full. I learned that it is very typical for cleanses to be weakening if one's adrenals are weak, so they should not be attempted until one is much, much better. In the meantime, a healthy diet free of as many toxins as posssible will help. As far as chelation, that can be really hard on the body too. I heard that whatever you take binds to the heavy metals and they go into your blood stream to be eliminated. The problem is that with adrenal fatigue your body can't clear toxins properly so you may end up only re-toxifying and stressing out your body. I got worse when I tried the chelation therapy (I had 6 Iv's). However, I did notice that one of the liqiud supplements Dr. Lam has me on has a tiny bit of EDTA (a chelation agent) in it so it might help clear heavy metals in a more gentle way. I have had some issues with re-toxification even on my supplements. Dr. Lam is focusing first on strengthening the adrenals but I know it is a circle where everything affects everything else. Dr. Lam does offer a free phone consultation. His staff is really nice and helpful. He really knows his stuff but can be a little hard to communicate with because he talks really fast and has an accent- I just ask him straight out now to please slow down! I wish you and your kids thes very best!

Carrie, I never heard back from Dr. Lam. Makes me think that my entry didn't "send". I am concerned about chelation therapy if its needed for me because I don't think I'm up to it. I tried two cleanses over the summer and ended up picking up respiratory infections while on them. One was homeopathic and one was a Chinese herbal. The naturopath said that cleanses won't help me until the heavy metals are gone. (if I have any) Well, I'm even concerned to take the pills to do the challenge to see if I have any! Sigh. I'm getting weary of rabbit trails. Plus I do too much reading. What I read about oral chelation is you can dislodge the metals and they can just move to another place rather than being excreted.
Today I found out its going to cost a lot to have my hormones and cortisols restested via saliva by mail. I think I need to know the values, though.
I wonder if the chelation did end up helping you in some capacity, Carrie?
Well, its one step at a time for me. Today I'm getting the requests for the blood work switched over to my primary care dr., the naturopath isn't covered under my insurance. I hope my DO will comply! Then I'll get blood work to check my thyroid and systems function for chelation. Then I have to pick up that info and copy it and mail it to the naturopath. Then I can take the oral chelation loading dose to test to see if I have heavy metals, sending it via urin samples Fed ex. In the meantime, I'm trying to breathe slowly and be thankful for the health that IS in my body.
Please think of us on Fri. when I take my 14 yo and 5 yo back for their Lyme disease rechecks, they both had it and were on antibiotics for a month. I think they're doing well!
Thanks for the note! Please keep in touch how Dr. Lam helps you! Joni

It will be interesting to see what the test results are. I have heard that heavy metals can definitely be a factor in adrenal fatigue. I have never been tested, though I was seeing a doctor in June who gave me IV vitamin treatments with chelation therapy which is supposed to get rid of heavy metals. Altogether I got worse under her care, but that is because I wasn't diagnosed with AF yet and she was having me do a major detox which is a big no no with weak adrenals. Dr. Lam said he is assuming I have all the stuff that contributes to weak adrenals and that his approach will address that too.

Hello! Had my appt. with the naturopath today, she moved my appt. up a week which was nice and convenient for both. After listening to me she decided to do further blood testing of my thryoid and other systems in preparation for a oral chelation therapy should it be necessary. I'm doing a home urine test for heavy metals. She said the disc dengeration I'm having along with a low Vit D could indicate some lead problems in my body or other heavy metals and that could be draining my energy which in turn, has drained my adrenals (I think that is how it would've worked). For now I'm not going to get the TCM herbals and she even had me cut back on my enzymes a bit and put me on just one of them, Gastrazyme by Biotics Research. Anyone else been tested for heavy metals? I have no reason to be tested but she said it could even be environmental? I'll keep you all updated! Take care and have a restful or fun weekend, whichever you're up to or a little of both! God bless, Joni

Thanks so much for replying to me, Carrie. What you say Dr. Lam is leading you through makes sense. I'm glad you're on digestive enzymes. I hope the next four weeks bring you some healing, praying that.

There is something called IPS by Biotics Research that I've been taking for intestinal permeability that I thought might help your digestion. You can look at that, here:

http://www.amazon.com/Biotics-Research-Intestinal-Permeability-Support/dp/B000UQPJAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1254953884&sr=8-1

I use four types of enzymes by them: Gastrozyme, Hydrozyme, CoQ10 and Beta TCP.

I figured out today that I could get all of the TCM herbals for about 85- for two months. I'm going to give the list to the naturopath next week and see what she says.

I'd like to get off some of the more stimulating herbs and glandulars, even though I've only taken a quarter of their dose and only for two months. I'm going to saliva test before I go off of them just to see if they helped at all.

Hey Joni, I will check out the articles by Carol- thank you. I really hope your appointment with the naturopath goes well and let me know what she thinks. As for TCM (thanks for clarifying), I actually had a consult with a TCM doctor/ actupuncturist last week and I have an appointment with another one next week. I decided I need to try something to augment what I'm already doing to see if it helps me move a little better towards recovery. I have heard from many people that they've gotten good results from TCM. I don't think Dr. Lam wants me taking herbs right now, but I may be strong enough for them in about 4 weeks. This is because I am not absorbing and processing nutrients properly so he said if I take a lot of stuff it can create more work for my body than benefit. The same goes for B-complex- I was on lots of B's for years and Dr. Lam told me to temporarily stop, which I know is unconventional. I do eat a diet rich in whole, natural foods so I'd be surprised if I was super deficient (unless due to the malabsorbtion) and I had my B12 tested a few months ago and it was high. Hope you have a good day!

If I wasn't clear, TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine

Well, I have an appt. with a naturopath next Friday and I'm looking forward to it. I know she can help with my thyroid and I'm looking forward to what she says about helping my adrenals.

Hi Carrie. What about B complex? If you go to this address below and click on files, you'll see Carol's articles on TCM herbs. You should also read the article about Deficient vs. Excess contitutions. I definitely am a deficient. I've read almost all her articles, now. I'm looking into supplementing some collagen, copper and zinc to strengthen my skeletal system-you know targeting the stressed areas of my body. Supplementing with topical hormones is helping, too, I think.
